What is Undie Sunday?
Undie Sunday marks the special day The Rotary
Brisbane Group has dedicated to raising vital awareness for bowel
cancer within the local community.
By bringing much needed attention to this deadly disease, The Brisbane Group aims to increase the number of people testing for bowel cancer each year in order to save more lives than ever before.
While Undie Sunday 2011 has already taken place, The Brisbane Group invites you to take part in Undie Sunday 2012 by again participating in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing nothing but their underpants.
The challenge for The Brisbane Group and all its participants is to break the current record of 547 people. With you part of this mission, The Brisbane Group is one step closer to reaching this goal. More news of Undie Sunday 2012 will be added closer to this page closer to the date.
Undie Sunday 2011
Rotary Bowelscan’s inaugural Undie Sunday event went off without a hitch on Sunday March 13, 2011 and Rotary Bowelscan would like to extend its deepest thanks to the hundreds of dedicated Queenslanders who generously gave up their Sunday morning to attempt to make bowel cancer awareness history.
A unique event, Undie Sunday aimed to raise vital awareness of bowel cancer and of the need for those most at risk of the disease to get tested now, by breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing nothing but their underpants, which stood at 547.
While Rotary Bowelscan just missed out on breaking this record, it was overwhelmed to see hundreds of people, both young and old, gathering at the Brisbane River Stage to not only shake their bottoms for a good cause, but to also help shed some light on what is Australia’s second biggest cancer killer.
Rotary Bowelscan would especially like to thank Undie Sunday’s key sponsors and supporters; Gray Media Services, Sly Underwear, Malouf Pharmacies, Vida Latina Dance Company, Sky Warriors, Mad Dance House, Dippin Dots, Havoc Party Trailers and Sneaky Cafe for their efforts in helping to make Undie Sunday truly a day to remember.
Rotary Bowelscan would also like to congratulate Undie Sunday’s MCs; Brisbane reporter and ex Masterchef contestant Sharnee Rawson, Courier Mail Confidential reporter Nathanael Cooper and Nova 106.9’s Dave Zwolenski and Jill Snape for going above and beyond to encourage all participants to get involved and to dance in their underwear.
Photos of just some of the festivities from Undie Sunday can be viewed below or by visiting Rotary Bowelscan’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/thebrisbanegroup.
Plans are already underwear for Undie Sunday 2012 so make sure you watch this space to see how you can get involved next year. With your help and ongoing support Rotary Bowelscan will most definitely be able to break the Guinness World Record in 2012.
